[MENA] At approximately 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2013, an adult male detainee collapsed in a one-man cell at the Polk County Detention Center. Law enforcement officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Mena Police Department, as well as emergency personnel from Southwest EMS, responded to the scene.
The man was transported to Mena Regional Health System where he was later pronounced dead. The body was turned over to the Polk County Coroner for transport to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy.
Arkansas State Police have now identified the deceased as Bryant Bullard, 54, of 214 Polk 168. In a press release issued by ASP stated, “Mr. Bullard was reportedly involved in a single vehicle motor vehicle crash earlier in the night (last Saturday night – early Sunday morning) and taken into custody about 3 AM Sunday. The crash had occurred along U.S. 71 (south of Mena) near Hatton. Mr. Bullard was taken from the Polk County Jail shortly after 5 AM to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police are investigating the death. Mr. Bullard’s body was examined today by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. An investigative report will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for review.”
